Papous protests!
Since:

- Papous (my Audi-80's) existence is now punished in Greece by having its yearly road-tax more than doubled. The tax almost equals its commercial value. It would be many times more that the car's value, if Papous had an 1.6l or larger engine.
- Papous still drives around in roads with the highest accident rate in the western world (assuming Greece is a western country).
- Papous has to face heavy traffic when moving even in smaller greek citys, slalom through illegaly parked cars, in traffic that is improved only when the traffic lights break (no big deal, most of them are red anyways), or the inefficient mass transportation system is on strike.
- Papous pays tolls for the single-lane roads, filled with holes, named "highways", or for the use of roads that will be constructed in the future (another Greek first!).
- In all its 25 year life, Papous became wise, and knows that Greek roads cost unbelievable amounts of money, much more than they do in other countries (the extra money end up in who's bank account, Papous wonders...)

Audi 80 - 80
I am now a big fan of an old car. I (somehow) now own an 1985 Audi-80 (called Audi-80-80, nicknamed "Papous" = "Granddad" in Greek) and have been surprised how everything still works!
Running around all over Greece in this car, I noticed how many - and I mean MANY, at least 20 or 25 year old - Audi 80s from the 80's are still around. I try to take a picture when I see one but, frankly, this happens more often than I have a camera or mobile phone ready. Many of these Audi 80's are in mint condition (unlike my "Papous")!
Below are some of these pictures:
(2009.6.Methoni)
(2009.06.Rio)
(2009.08.Pireaus)
(2009.08.Karpathos)
(2009.08. Also in Karpathos)
(2009.08. Also in Karpathos, the 2nd car in the picture)
(2009.08.Evia)
(2009.09.Nafplio)
(2009.09.Patra)
(2009.09.Rio)
(2009.09.Kalamata)
(2009.10.Olympia - The red car is a 1st generation Audi 80)
(2009.10.Ilia)
(2009.10.Ilia. Sadly these cars are left for destruction. In October 2009 the Greek government gave 1000 euros for any old car destoyed or -hopefully- recycled)
(2009.11.Kalamata)
(2009.11.Achaia)
(2009.11.Achaia)
(2009.11.Achaia - "Papous" on the left, a better preserved cousin on the right)
More Audi 80's to come... There are so many out there!
